Interview = Success

I interviewed with my first family at 11am today in Boylston, MA! My friend Sarah, a Bates student who was an intern at Hillview this summer, needed a ride to Portsmouth, NH, so I had a co-pilot for half of the ride. It was great conversation and a nice time to spend with Sarah before she goes to Africa in a week. Good Luck Miss Sarah! (We figured that if she is in Africa and I am here in the US, we could buy the same shirt and not worry about being seen in the same shirt. Then we both ended up wearing it our last day together! Great minds think alike!)

The Familly: Peter is a lobbyist working out of home and Boston and Annie is a Surgeon. Aliya is a brilliant and beautiful 6 year old who does dance and loves to read, a girl after my own heart. :) Matthew is a sweet 3.5 year old who loves sports. He told me "I love the Boston Red Sox." Aliya will be starting first grade and Matthew will be in preschool three days a week.

I brought sidewalk chalk and we wrote all over the poolside. The children were very well behaved and you could tell they are well taken care of and loved by their parents. Peter and Annie expressed that they have no intentions of pawning their children off onto a nanny, but would like someone to care for, challenge and offer stimulating activities to their children while they are working.

So the benefits are great too! The nanny gets a Toyota Highlander to drive the children in. They will pay for health insurance, 4 weeks of vacation, weekends off, and my own phone line. Oh, and I will have a credit card for all expenses childcare related.

I got a call!

I got my first phone calls yesterday from potential families. The first family, well I spoke with the Dad, was looking for someone for a few years. I have to be honest folks, I hope to be having and spending bucket loads of money on my own baby in a few years, not getting paid bucket loads of $$$ to care for other's children!! We left it at that and I was okay with it. But later in the afternoon I got a call from another family. Again it was the husband, (very impressed that Dad is helping find childcare) and this seemed like a better match. I have an interview with them on Saturday at 11am. Pray for me!

I hope to interview with several families. I want to have options and not just jump on the first one because the benefits are so attractive! In any case, I'll be making more each week than I make every two weeks right now :) I can see my student loans dwindling!
